I was born in the mid-eighties, amidst the farmers and middle-classes of the South Devon coast. The youngest of four, I was always fighting for centre-stage. It was not surprising then, that I discovered the theatre at a young age and continued to absorb myself in it throughout my childhood. I pursued all things creative, taking dance classes, music lessons and entering speech and poetry competitions. I was fascinated by the fun and naughtiness of the "Carry On" films and would spend hours impersonating the cast of "Fawlty Towers", both of which still influence me.

A bright child, I was the frustration of most of my teachers, throwing myself head first into all things artistic but not fulfilling my intellectual potential. It was my English A-Level that paved the foundation for my love of literature. In particular, I loved Austen's satirical commentary on modern society and Shakespeare's wit and phallic references. But still I remained focused on a career in acting.

At eighteen, I won a place at drama school in Edinburgh and my dreams of becoming an actress were realized. My self-perceptions changed dramatically over the next three years and by the time I graduated, I no longer saw myself as a serious Shakespearean thespian but as a comic character actress, suitable for Aykbourn and Leigh, which I relished. I thrived on finding characters idioms and flaws, a feature that has now emerged in my writing.

I soon fell into the actors' lifestyle, struggling to get work and spending months of the year "resting". It was on one of these "rest" days that I became fascinated with an awkward looking man sat opposite me on the tube. I started to wonder about his life and whether or not he had a sex life. Returning home, I put pen to paper and the first stages of Derek began to emerge. Six months later, I had fumbled a finished draft of "The Coming of Derek".

I had found a passion for writing but doubted my self-taught skills and techniques, so I signed up to Creative Writing with the Open University. By the time the course finished in 2010, I had numerous short stories and scenes and had begun work on my second novel "Custard Dreams", about a Devonshire prostitute. I am also working on a number of plays with the hope of combining my love of acting and writing.

I tend to be inspired by people I see in the street, or a line of speech I overhear, or people I remember from my childhood. As a young writer, I have no idea how I will develop and change in the future, but for now I am enjoying writing humorous love stories and creating comic characters in microcosmic communities. I hope my readers will get as much pleasure from reading my work, as I have had writing it.
